PEAR TREE
The pear tree rewards us doubly, both for its beauty and its delicious fruit. This deciduous tree ,originates in countries around the Caspian Sea. After the apple tree is the most important deciduous fruit tree for Greek farmers. Grown mainly in Macedonia, the Peloponnese and Thessaly, in an area of approximately 45,000 square meters and an average annual production of 80,000 tons of pears.
By pruning, the pear easily limited to 5-6m. height and 3-4m. diameter. Lives enough, at least for 30 years. Fructify in 4th- 5th year, depending on the vigor of the tree and the variety of pear.
It flowers from April to May, before they hit the shiny, serrated, heart-shaped leaves or simultaneously therewith. The flowering lasts more than 20 days. The pale flowers of intense color gray and colorless even for landscape season of our garden. The many varieties differ significantly in pears ripening time, from early June and late September-October, late / autumn. The variation in curing time and maintainability pears for several months, resulting in finding pears on the market almost all year.
